Julie Liu, DVM, feline-focused veterinarian and consultant

Hi, I’m Dr. Julie Liu

I'm a veterinarian, consultant, and speaker based in Austin, TX with over 15 years of experience in general practice and a deep passion for feline medicine, behavior, and compassionate handling. I founded Flux Veterinary to bring feline-friendly education, training, and consulting to veterinary teams and pet brands committed to improving the feline experience.

My feline expertise has been featured in the New York Times Wirecutter, including articles on aging pets, automatic litter boxes, and giving pets medications. I also serve as an ongoing feline medical reviewer for Business Insider. I've spoken at numerous national veterinary conferences and events, and was featured in the April/May 2025 edition of Today's Veterinary Business in a profile on feline-focused veterinary professionals.

Puff, Dr. Julie Liu's senior cat and inspiration behind her feline-focused veterinary work

I love working with vet and pet professionals and helping them connect more compassionately with the cats in their care. I thrive on collaboration and meet challenges with innovation. If your team is struggling with stressed feline patients, stressed staff, or handling-related injuries, I’m here to help.

As the past Vice President of the Relief Veterinary Medical Association, I helped advocate for relief veterinary professionals at the local and national level.

Since November 2023, I’ve also provided in-home cat behavior consultations in the Austin area through my housecall practice My Family Cat, helping cat parents with concerns such as housesoiling, intercat tension, and owner-directed aggression.

Outside of work, I enjoy family time with my partner Brian and our super senior cat Puff, backyard birding, and finding good ethnic food places.
